Red Hat věří, že díky open source technologiím bude v budoucnosti hrát stále významnější roli na trhu s virtualizací a cloudy. Firma díky poplatkům za předplatné těchto služeb v roce 2011 poprvé protočila první miliardu dolarů a během tohoto roku plánuje jít ještě o něco dále. K vyšší penetraci, větším penězům a širšímu rozšíření open source technologií má mimo jiné pomoci nové verze virtualizačního nástroje Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0.
„Virtualizace je jeden ze základních pilířů Red Hatu,“ uvedl tento týden na sezení s novináři Vladimír Špička z českého zastoupení dravé společnosti. Firma se do virtualizační hry zapojila už v roce 2007, když vstoupila do projektu KVM (hypervisor Kernel Based Virtual Machine), na kterém se podílí také další IT matadoři jako Intel, IBM nebo Cisco. Od té doby produkt výrazně vyspěl a Red Hat na něj nabalil další služby a funkce, včetně správy virtualizace pomocí open source nástroje oVirt.
Virtualizace s možností volby
Virtualizace od červeného klobouku získala také certifikaci od Microsoftu. „Naši zákazníci to jednoduše vyžadovali, protože používají více platforem a nástrojů, takže potřebují, aby na jejich Linuxové virtualizaci běžely i systémy od Microsoftu,“ vysvětlil tento krok Špička.
Zákazníky už není nutné přesvědčovat, aby virtualizovali. Teď chtějí možnost volby. Na obrázku Vladimír Špička z českého Red Hatu.
Virtualizační byznys už prošel potřebnou evangelizací a nyní je čas na jeho krystalizaci. „Už nemusíme zákazníky přesvědčovat, že mají virtualizovat, to oni vědí. Teď chtějí možnost volby,“ reprezentuje názory Red Hatu Vladimír Špička. Open source firma s hlavním vývojovým centrem v Brně (kde staví novou budovu) věří reakci zákazníků a výzkumů několika nezávislých skupin (například IDC), kteří tvrdí, právě otevřenost systémů bude v budoucnu hrát důležitou roli.
„Více jak 70 procent firem má virtualizaci od dvou dodavatelů,“ vysvětluje zástupce českého Red Hatu. Jde například o kombinaci technologií VMware a nově se k tomu přidávají produkty červeného klobouku. Důvodem je jednak to, že se VMware byl prvním výrazným dravcem v této oblasti a také skutečnost, že firmy do virtuálního prostředí dříve převáděly stroje s Windows. Nyní se o totéž snaží i s Linuxem. Zatímco virtualizovaných serverů s Windows může být podle údajů Red Hatu okolo 50 až 60 procent, těch s Linuxem je pouhých 10 procent.
Kolem 84 procent zákazníků provozujících RHEV zároveň s tím fungují také s virtualizačními technologiemi VMware. Firma samotná se oproti konkurenci často ostře vyhrazuje, což potvrzuje náš nedávný rozhovor s viceprezidentem Red Hatu Scottem Crenshawem.
Virtualizovat Linux
A serverů s Linuxem je hodně. Jejich správci navíc na jejich virtualizaci požadují otevřené systémy, které znají a kterým důvěřují. Red Hat má proto otevřené široké pole působnosti.
Red Hat akvizicí Glusteru zamířil mezi IT obry
Podle Vladimíra Špičky je v případě Linuxových serverů stále jejich správce ten, kdo má silné konzultační slovo při nákupu nových technologií. Zatímco například Microsoft a další přesouvají svá jednání více k finančním šéfům, Red Hat stále vidí důležité obě strany. „Musíme se umět zaměřit jak na manažery, kteří jdou po tabulkách a návratnosti, tak na techniky s rozhodujícími pravomocemi,“ řekl v krátkém rozhovoru pro Živě.cz Špička.
Red Hat věří tomu, že zaujme nejenom sentimentem a přízní věrných zákazníků, ale také samotnými funkcemi. RHEV 3.0 pracuje s novým jádrem Enterprise Linuxu (RHEL 6.2), nabízí vlastní marketplace, podporuje až 160 logických procesorů a teoretické maximum 64 TB paměti. Virtuální stroje zvládnout 64 virtuálních procesorů a 512 GB paměti. Red Hat nabízí také virtuální desktopy pomocí VDI a protokolu SPICE.
Konečná pro Windows: cloud, AppBlast a HTML5
Podle Špičky v současné napjaté ekonomické situaci stále pro zákazníky hraje velikou roli cena. „RHEV dokážete provozovat za sedminu nákladů oproti technologiím VMware a za třetinu nákladů při tříletém provozu.“ Red Hat samozřejmě těží ze své praxe předplatného služeb.
Red Hat v loňském roce společně s Intelem, HP, IBM a dalšími partnery rozjel sdružení Open Virtualization Alliance, které se zaměřuje především na cloud. V současnosti už má přes 200 členů.
